It’s all downhill from here

Well, today I am 26 years old. I’m now rolling downhill through my twenties. Yesterday, I had my first full physical in a while. Let me tell you, nothing says “Happy Birthday” like a doctor ramming his finger in a place that was clearly marked “exit only — do not enter.” Anyway, I have a more or less clean bill of health now, so that’s a nice reassurance to have, now that I’m getting old. :)

A sad day for music lovers

I just read this horrible news: Wesley Willis passed away on August 21st, at the young age of 40. His stuff was, and is, priceless to listen to. And hey, you’ve gotta love anyone who gives out headbutts at his concerts for a couple of bucks. Farewell, Wesley Willis — Rock over London. Rock on Chicago. Wheaties, breakfast of champions.

W32.Sobig.F@mm

For the love of all that is holy, go here and find out about the W32.Sobig.F@mm worm. Yesterday, I started getting mails from infected people at the rate of around 10 every half hour. Today, I’m getting them at 10 every 5 minutes. It pulls recipient addresses from your web cache, so I guess I should be flattered that this many people are visiting neorants.com, but somehow, all I can manage is to be extremely annoyed. :)

Cultured diamonds are coming

This article at Wired about the emergence of “cultured diamonds” is cool not only in the “this is gonna revolutionize computing as we know it!” sense, but also in the “chock full of conspiratorial undertones” sense. Interesting reading.

Personal update

Last night, gooselady gave me a fish. A Betta, to be precise. A Betta Splenden, to be even more precise. My birthday is coming up on the 29th, so I think it’s sort of an early birthday thing. Anyway, his name (at her suggestion) is Morpheus. He’s not quite the presence that Laurence Fishburne is, but he’s quite nice all the same. I have him here at the office. Here’s hoping he lives through the weekend. :)

Insane computer rig

This is now the object of all my geek lusts. I need to get a life.

PALADIN update

In case you hadn’t guessed by now, the reason I haven’t been updating is that I have been busy working on PALADIN. Thought I would throw up a quick screenshot to show the progress made thus far. Trouble ticketing is now in, there is a splash screen during initialization now, and generally things are just looking much more polished and Windows-native. I’m really loving the way this is shaping up, and I’m just hoping that my company decides it’s as cool as we think it is here.

Busy day off

I took off work today, but I’ve been helping my favorite teacher get her classroom ready for students. I had no idea teachers went through so much trouble to make their room interesting for kids… I mean, I remember looking around at all the various stuff in a room back in elementary school and never really thinking about how much trouble it was to put it all together — usually I was busy thinking how cheesy it all was. Amazing how opinions change. Now I think the stuff is cute. I should go back to elementary school, because it’s only now that I can appreciate it. :)
