Note to self: don’t tempt fate

Remember the post earlier today about me feeling lucky? Yeah… don’t ever do that. While I did, in fact, finally see the refund that the KRC owed me today (I might have mentioned it a time or three), when we went out to Rocky’s to grab a bite to eat tonight, I bit down on a refreshing after-dinner mint and chipped a tooth. Me and my big mouth.

Viva la gooselady!

OK, first off, she has updated her page again, for those of you that check here to find out when she’s updated. Secondly, as you’ll notice, she’s become frustrated with the limitations that pesky greymatter board I set up for her have placed on her creativity (read: she doesn’t want to mess with the templating syntax ;) ), so her journal can now be reached here. I do have to give mad kudos for doing her editing from my other baby with a minimum of complaining about how much macs suck. There may be hope for the lass yet. ;)

IM of the day

[12:02] Neo: and screw you and your popups pal
[12:03] Nitewarez: you shouldn’t be closing my windows
[12:03] Nitewarez: I don’t close your……
[12:03] Nitewarez: *sniff*

I feel lucky

I got a straight on my “Jokers Wild” vending machine fake-uccino cup. I didn’t even have to draw my card from the bottom. Fear my mad coffee cup poker skillz. Fear them!!

Donotcall.gov launched

In case you haven’t heard the news, President Bush launched the national “do-not-call” list today. The web site is being hammered right now, but I highly suggest you try and register as soon as possible — the FTC doesn’t start enforcing the list until Oct. 1st, though. It’s about time there was a centralized way to tell telemarketers we aren’t interested.

8-bit D&D

Hahaha… OK, this one has been out for a few months, apparently, but I just found it: 8 Bit D&D. Much like the old “Summoner Geeks” movie, it puts a picture to the audio skit done by the Dead Alewives, but this one is even better. Something about the lip-syncing on the pixelated 8-bit characters just cracks me up. :)

PALADIN update

A while back I mentioned that I was working on a Perl/Tk application. Well, the app is called PALADIN, and it’s basically going to be a front-end to a customer database, handling customer info, trouble ticketing, and the like. This is a large Perl/Tk app, so the going is kind of slow, but I’m finally starting to hit my stride. Click “more” for details, and a screenshot.

Unix vendor IRC log

This comment to a livejournal community post details what would happen if unix vendors conducted their relations like the IRC kiddiez do. I’ve included a copy of the text in this post, as well, in case the original disappears. Thanks to Brash for the heads up — this thing is hilarious! :)

Google likes me

I’ve been watching my referrer log for some time now, and some of the search terms I’m getting a mad amount of hits from have been surprising me. For instance, this month I have gotten almost 2000 hits from people searching for “Most Extreme Elimination Challenge.” I made one short post on it and the post got so loaded with comments that I had to disable them. So I decided to do some research…

Assisted suicide on the web?

This article is kind of scary. I’m all for free speech on the ‘net, don’t get me wrong, but do we really need people putting up suicide how-to documents? I mean, not to sound harsh, but if you’re too stupid to know how to kill yourself without help, chances are you aren’t capable of making any life or death decisions for yourself, right?
